It's personal-blog-post-Friday (well, Saturday now) and I was expecting to post something else tonight, but then Reidlee came over to help me with a creating a test portrait for an 80's-era style portrait session I'm considering offering. When I saw her outfit I got super excited because it was just really unique and cool. Turns out the outfit is only half as cool as Reidlee is, because she was really excited when she discovered I have two pet snakes.
Ten minutes later and we're doing another photoshoot - but one for fun. I loved how Sophie's coloring matched Reidlee's hair, and the bright floral print of her shirt was the perfect backdrop for Sophie. This is the first photoshoot I've done with either of my snakes, and I'm completely in love with this image series. This is the kind of fun session that keeps the creativity flowing through my veins.
How does a photoshoot like this make me a better wedding photographer? Hell if I know how it works, but creativity is like a muscle and if you aren't stretching it and exercising it, then it gets weak. A lot of the different compositions I now use in my wedding photography I discovered through experimenting during personal projects, like this one. You never know what magic you'll create when you spend time getting your lighting right, and then just let loose and follow your eye without trying to create anything specific.
