What a year it's been here in San Antonio! So much networking, so much marketing, and I'm just getting started! Look out 2017! Of course, when I was thinking about how on earth to sum up this past year there was only one thing on my mind. Each of the amazing couples whose weddings I photographed, all 28 who crossed in front of my lens, and the extremely talented vendors I worked with at those weddings. This past year I got to photograph weddings at stunning San Antonio venues like The St. Anthony Hotel, The McNay Art Museum, Lost Missions, Gruene Estate, and so many others.
I ran into a 2016 bride at one of my 2017 weddings, she was working at the venue. I ran into another friend at a different 2017 wedding - she was doing the makeup, and I didn't even know she was a makeup artist! I photographed a groom's cake that looked like a BMW tire, another that looked like Dodger Stadium, and shot my longest ever wedding - 13 hours of photography, and I watched (from a chair, as a guest, what?!) two friends get married this year.
That seems like such an arbitrary number to describe my 2016. Twenty-Eight couples decided to preserve their wedding memories through my eyes and lenses, and I'm forever grateful because I am obsessed with wedding photography. Seriously. When I'm having a rough day, I'm too stressed out, or when I just need to take a step back from the soul-murdering non-photography part of being a wedding photographer, I just step back and look at my work from these 28 weddings. I pour through the images I love and just soak in the beauty.
Not only has 2016 been a really busy and a bit stressful, but I feel this year I've finally begun to hit my stride as a wedding photographer. My style is coming through more and more in my work, and my overall quality of work has improved. I'm quite pleased with what I've accomplished during this past year, and without so many amazing weddings to photograph it simply wouldn't have happened! So, a huge thank you to all my amazing couples, and thank you to YOU, yes you, reading this, for your support! Seriously, when I see ya'll's likes on Instagram, Facebook, etc. it honestly makes my day!
Here are a few of my favorite images from this past year of photographing San Antonio weddings. Favorites from a photographer's perspective.
... and in 2017?
I'll admit, as much as I detest New Year's resolutions, I do have a few for this next year. Some boring business ones, but one really important one to me is that I will be shooting all personal projects exclusively with film cameras.
The only digital work I'll be doing is wedding / portrait photography. This past year I added quite a bit of film photography equipment to my collection (thank all the gods a lot of it was crazy cheap) and jumped back into the film world. I haven't shared much of my film work on here, but I'll rectify that going forward. In fact, today I just picked up a briefcase of film (yes, he had it in a briefcase!! haha) from a friend who isn't shooting film anymore.
As far as new things coming to The PK Photographs ... stay tuned. I've been working on a lot of ideas, but there is one special one that I can't wait to unveil to the world, it'll make all my old couples want to get remarried!! I hope everyone had a fantastic New Year, and is ready to just live life in 2017!
