It was chilly and cloudy when I pulled up to Lost Mission for Cierra and Jake's wedding. While the weather was cold, the atmosphere was anything but. Cierra and Jake were getting ready in separate rooms, both a little nervous and very excited, and their families were so warm and friendly. With Jake stationed in California, the couple were legally married a year ago, but I was so excited these two decided to have a wedding ceremony here in Texas, near San Antonio, and at one of the most photogenic venues I've shot at to date!
The first look went off without a hitch, with Jake barely able to keep from turning around as he heard Cierra walking up behind him. His face when he finally saw his bride was enough to make even the most cynical believe in love. I love when a couple chooses to do a first look for a few different reasons. The most important reason is it allows them to see each other for the first time without being surrounded by a hundred people, and the emotional reaction is not as hidden, but it also allows for us to capture portraits of the couple before the ceremony, while there is still daylight.
Once all the guests arrived and filed in, along with the officiant, Rene Esparza of Texas Wedding Ministers, the ceremony was underway. Cierra's father walked her up the aisle to her beaming groom. The ceremony was a 15 minutes long with the two saying their vows, exchanging rings, and it was off to the reception! When Cierra first saw her reception hall the only words she had were, "It's perfect. Everything is perfect." They entered the reception hall with huge smiles to their cheering family and friends and after sitting down, dinner was underway. The evening progressed with cake cutting, heart-warming toasts, and dancing. Cierra's grandmother had passed away previous to the event, so Cierra had a piece of her wedding dress sewn into one of the layers of her dress, and her father had the DJ play a song being sung by Cierra's grandmother for their father-daughter dance. It was hard for me to not tear up while capturing such an emotional moment for her. The evening continued with the guests, bride and groom dancing, laughing, and talking the night away.
